Terre à Terre to host pop-up restaurant on Brighton Pier this September

As part of this year’s Brighton & Hove Food Festival, the Terre á Terre team will be hosting a pop-up restaurant on the pier for one night only on 20th September. From 7pm, Brighton’s best-loved vegetarian restaurant will serve a banquet of their unique meat-free interpretations on seaside fare, washed down with wine and Brighton Rock cocktails.

With the seaside as a suitably impressive backdrop, the meal will begin with a ‘Pier Platter’ of ‘potted this and that’ and their take on the classic prawn cocktail. (This one will, of course, be shellfish-free!) A main course of ‘Better Batter’ is a twist on traditional fish and chips, with halloumi cheese deep-fried in a light and crispy batter and served all the trimmings and tasty vodka tomatoes.

Vegan diners can enjoy an ‘Eely Good’ main of salsify goujons and (fish-free) aubergine jelly eels. The Terre á Terre team claim that salsify delivers an almost oyster-like flavour and ‘and given this connection to the marine world, and our overactive imaginations, we felt that this dish would fit perfectly’. The feast will be accompanied by organic wine and will finish with a dessert of ‘Two Fat Tarts’ – a fitting tribute to ‘kiss me quick’ Brighton seaside kitsch.

Tickets are priced at £40 pp (or £35 for the non-alcoholic option), which includes a welcome cocktail, the 3-course meal and 250ml organic wine. Tickets can be booked via Terre á Terre on 01273 729051.

The Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival runs from 1st September to 7th October and the schedule is already packed with foodie events. There will be farmers’ markets, supperclubs, a live food stage, a Thai festival, workshops and wine tastings at Hotel du Vin. The Duke of Yorks cinema will be screening foodie film ‘Julie & Julia’ and US chef Anthony Bourdain will be talking about his new book ‘Medium Raw’. Adventurous foodies can follow the World Food Trail by picking up a map and stopping at local restaurants, bars and food shops to try free tasters, themed drinks and tapas-sized dishes.
