Fancy a weekend trip abroad with your special someone? Give Berlin a try. Next to its array of history and culture, the German capital’s culinary scene has lots to offer. If you’re in the mood for romance, here are six restaurants for an unforgettable date night in one of Europe’s hot spots.
German newspaper Tagesspiegel describes Spindler as a place where “all the cool girls and boys hang out” and we could not agree more. Located in a converted industrial building along Kreuzberg’s canal (ideal for a romantic after dinner stroll along the water), the restaurant offers guests a gourmet experience in one of Berlin’s most legendary districts. The menu is modern European with a French accent and there is an interesting range of French and German wines to choose from. Be sure to save room for desserts like tonka bean panna cotta with poached cherries, roasted almonds and grapefruit foam.
Katz Orange, located in Berlin Mitte, takes up the bottom two floors of a 19th-century former brewery and is tucked away in a typical Berlin-style back courtyard. At night its ornate red brick facade is illuminated and provides atmospheric seating on the open-air terrace – the perfect date spot for you and your partner to gaze into each other’s eyes. The restaurant is a firm favourite amongst Berlin’s intellectual and creative scene. The food is locally sourced and seasonal and there is an impressive list of more than 150 different wines.
