Five of the best London pop-ups to try this August

August is a great month to explore London. With lots of Brits heading off on holiday, the city feels a little quieter, more relaxed, and sometimes there’s even sunshine. If you don’t fancy sweating over the barbecue, we’ve rounded up some of the best pop-ups to visit this month, from killer Thai food in Clapham to Brazilian flavours in London Fields.

Tem Ban Thai at The King & Co

The King & Co has had some fantastic chefs in their kitchen this year and we’re particularly excited about their new Thai residency. Throughout August and September, Tem Ban will be serving Southeast Asian small and large plates, plus daily specials and weekend brunch. Head chef Craig Broadhurst (ex-Begging Bowl and Smoking Goat) and his team will be serving dishes like Chang Mai pork belly curry, whole Thai steamed fish, and fragrant cuttlefish salad. If you’re hungry for barbecue but don’t fancy firing up the grill, here are ten UK restaurants that are guaranteed to satisfy your cravings for ‘cue. From slow-smoked ribs in Dalston to pulled pork platters in Brighton, one thing’s for sure – you won’t leave hungry!

HotBox, London – This east London BBQ restaurant serves some of the best barbecue you’ll find outside the USA. Swing by for a boozy weekend brunch or go for dinner and try their legendary ribs, hot link sausages, and chipotle beef rib tacos topped with chimichurri and crispy shallots.

Hickory’s, Chester – Inspired by their trips to the southern states, Hickory’s serve fantastic Texas style beef brisket, dry rubbed ribs, and super spicy chicken wings that are not for the faint-hearted!

Barbecoa, London – It’s all about meat, fire and smoke at Jamie Oliver’s barbecue steakhouse overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral. Try the slow-roasted pit beef, dry aged steaks, and baby back ribs with Korean slaw.

Ramsay to open second Maze Grill – Gordon Ramsay is set to open a second Maze Grill restaurant on the former site of Aubergine in Chelsea, where he won his first Michelin stars. Like the original Maze Grill in Mayfair, the new restaurant will serve rare breed steaks, fish and poultry from the Josper grill.

Grillstock returns with dates in Bristol, Manchester and London – The hugely popular Grillstock BBQ and music festival has three UK dates this year – Manchester (30-31^st May), Bristol (11-12^th July) and, for the first time, London (5-6^th September). Book your tickets early and get ready for a weekend packed with live music, craft beer, great food and their US-style King of the Grill BBQ competition.

Simon Rogan to open two new restaurants – Simon Rogan (Fera, L’Enclume) plans to open a fish restaurant on the south coast and a brasserie in Cumbria that will be similar to Mr Cooper’s, his restaurant at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.

Big Easy launches Shrimp Tuesdays – Every Tuesday from noon, Big Easy in Covent Garden will be offering two unlimited shrimp options with a slushie cocktail or brew for £19 per person. Choose from deep fried shrimp with fries, slaw and cocktail sauce, or the Southern shrimp boil – peel and eat shrimp, smoked sausage, corn on the cobb and potatoes in a classic broth.
