New to toptable: Hix, The Mall Tavern, Kitchen W8 and more great restaurants in London and beyond

Looking for some inspiration for your summer suppers? Hundreds of hot new restaurants (and old favourites) join toptable each month, giving you the chance to book and review online or on your mobile as well as earning points when you eat out. Here’s just a handful of some of the newly bookable restaurants in London, the UK and beyond. With glam gastropubs, British bistros, celeb chefs and quirky diners in the mix – there really is something for everyone.

Hix – Not one but four newly bookable restaurants from celeb chef Mark Hix, famous for his no-nonsense approach to gutsy British fare. Try the smart but unpretentious Smithfield original, Hix Oyster Bar & Chophouse; the oh-so chic Selfridges branch; or the buzzing Soho outpost where the cocktail bar has become a destination in its own right. If you’re planning a staycation in Dorset, book a table at Hix Oyster & Fish House and enjoy some first class seafood and the view of Lyme Regis fishing port.

Kitchen W8 – In a well-heeled corner of London, Philip Howard and Rebecca Mascarenhas have created a stylish but relaxed eatery that’s as lovely for lunch as it is for dinner. The menu combines British produce with classic French techniques to create dishes like sea bream with mussel and bacon chowder and roast lamb rump with balsamic onions, peas and broad beans. With three great offers running until the end of August, this is the perfect place to enjoy some fine wine and fab food in Kensington.

The Mall Tavern – In a quiet corner of Notting Hill Gate, this gorgeous gastropub is always rammed to the rafters with after-work drinkers and local foodies. The bar stocks an impressive range of beers and whiskies but the real draw is chef Jesse Dunford-Wood’s retro British menu. Bag a table for the incredibly popular Sunday roast or pop in mid-week for old-school favourites like cow pie, fish fingers, chicken kiev and Arctic Roll for pud.

Rock & Roller – Down south in Brighton, this slice of vintage Americana has all the ingredients for a great night out under one roof. There’s a pool hall upstairs, old films playing on the cinema screen, and a menu packed full of USA comfort food. Grab your friends and share a diner-style feast of buffalo wings, jerk chicken thighs, baby back ribs and Mexican burgers.

Silk Road – In leafy Littlehampton, this exotic eatery is a pleasant surprise with its plush Persian carpets, colourful silks and a tented ceiling transporting diners back to holidays in the Middle East. With live entertainment ranging from belly dancers to Latin jazz, it’s the perfect antidote to fussy fine dining. The menu is inspired by the cuisine of Turkey and the Med, so arrive hungry and share mezze dishes, tender grilled kebabs and slow-cooked meat dishes, fragrant with fruit and spices.

Good – Good by name and great by nature, this award-winning restaurant in New York’s Greenwich Village is a must-try for locals and travellers alike. Chef Steven Picker is passionate about top quality produce and his menus change with the seasons to keep things fresh for his devoted regulars. Signature dishes include the crispy peanut chicken salad and the green chilli mac ‘n’ cheese, while brunch options like buttermilk pancakes and breakfast burritos are an excellent way to start the day.
