If you’re too old for trick or treating but still want to raise a little hell this weekend, here are five Halloween specials to add to your To Do list. No creepy costumes required!
Head south of the river and celebrate Halloween in style at Gordon Ramsay’s London House. There will be activities for kids all weekend while grown-ups can enjoy pumpkin and ginger soup served in a pumpkin or pork belly with mini candied apples. Save room for dessert – a creepy crème brûlée with a blood apple filling, served with finger biscuits.
Cinnamon Soho have a created a sinister ‘Body Bites’ menu that really puts the gore into gourmet. Snack on oxtail samosas, grilled duck hearts with spicy chutney, or their infamous brain burger – deep-fried lambs brains topped with onion rings and coriander chutney. The menu is available all week but if you don’t fancy brains, try their Bangla-Scotch egg or Chettinad-style lamb curry.
At the glamorous Quaglino’s in Mayfair, they’re serving three Halloween-inspired cocktails every day this week. Try the Bloody Alexander (a ghoulish twist on the classic brandy-based tipple) or a fruity Zombie made with enough rum to make your head spin. We’ve got our eye on the tequila-spiked Green Monster, garnished with samphire like a proper witches’ brew!
Satisfy your pizza cravings and embrace your dark side with the Halloween special at Pizza Buzz near Old Street station. They’ve created a black base (made with squid ink) and topped it with mozzarella, butternut squash, red onion, peppers, cherry tomatoes, olives and a drizzle of garlic oil to keep the vampires away. It’s priced at £9.95 so you can splash the rest of your cash at Flight Club, the new darts bar next door.
At the Old Bengal Bar near Liverpool Street, the bar team have created a potent Witches Brew served in a sugar skull glass. In a nod to the Mexican Day of the Dead, it’s made with El Ron Prohibido (a Mexican rum), Dom Bénédictine, Monte Alban Mezcal, pumpkin purée, Angostura Bitters, hazelnut syrup and lime juice. Soak it up with some of their excellent bar snacks or head next door to New Street Grill for dinner.
