Blog bites: What we’re reading

blog bites

We’ve started following some great new food blogs for 2014, so even if you’re dieting or broke this month, you can still feast your eyes on our round-up of restaurant reviews. If something catches your eye, add it to your toptable wishlist or, better yet, treat yourself this week!

If you’re cutting down on meat after all the festive excess, check out Burger Me’s London Veggie Burger Review. The meat-free options at Byron and Honest Burgers look surprisingly tasty, but it’s MEATmission’s halloumi mushroom burger that caught our eye.

If you’re taking a more carnivorous approach to 2014, head for The Lockhart near Marble Arch which has recently unveiled a new head chef, Brad McDonald and a revamped Southern American menu. Rocket & Squash went along to try out the new dishes and raves about the dirty rice stuffed quail, freshly baked corn bread, and saddle of fallow deer.

We love the look of the slow-roast pork belly in London Chow’s review of Bread Street Kitchen (Gordon Ramsay’s City restaurant) but if you really want to impress someone this month, check out The London Foodie’s write up of Sushisamba. The views from the Heron Tower are jaw-dropping and the menu (a fusion of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian) is guaranteed to impress even the fussiest of foodies.

Sam The Food Fan visited Vivat Bacchus in London Bridge for a kangaroo steak (‘extremely lean but still packed full of flavour’) and a visit to their legendary Cheese Room. If you work nearby, you can drop in for lunch when a dish and a glass of wine, Zulu Blonde Beer, or juice will only set you back £10.

If you’re looking for a new lunch spot near Carnaby Street, check out We Love Food’s review of Rosa’s new Ganton Street branch. The husband-and-wife team liked the crispy Thai squid starter and the classic green and massaman curries, as well as the reasonable prices!

Representing the North West, Nomface had a great pre-Christmas meal at Aumbry in Prestwich. The intimate restaurant was named one of the Top Ten Best Restaurants in the UK back in December and continues to impress toptable diners.
