12 Days of Festive Fun – 1. Skate ‘n’ Dine

Strapping on your skates at one of London’s fantastic outdoor ice rinks is the perfect way to kick start the Christmas cheer. Our favourite is the stunning Skate rink that pops up every year in the 18th century courtyard of Somerset House on the Strand. After dark, you can skate to a soundtrack mixed live by top DJs and then have dinner at Tom Aiken’s Skate Lounge or in nearby Covent Garden.

Looking for a kid-friendly skate experience? Head for Eyeskate in the shadow of the London Eye or glide hand-in-hand under twinkling lights at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. At Somerset House, the Penguin Club will help nervous skaters under eight take their first steps on ice with penguin stabilisers to keep them upright! (The penguins are also available at the NHM rink.)
