Christmas in London is already magical, but why not take it to the next level with an indulgent festive treat? We’ve rounded up five of the best spots to enjoy a Christmas-themed afternoon tea with family and friends.

Céleste at The Lanesborough

The Lanesborough’s award-winning afternoon tea never fails to impress but it’s particularly special at Christmas time. Served in the opulent surroundings of Céleste, guests will enjoy a choice of teas, homemade scones, and sandwiches made with bread coloured by turmeric, beetroot and matcha. Diners with a sweet tooth can look forward to hazelnut snowballs, bite-size pear and almond tartelettes, and chocolate baubles filled with chocolate mousse and banana confit. Afternoon tea is accompanied by festive tunes played on the piano, plus carol singing from the City Academy Chamber Choir on December 8th and 9th.

Available until 31st December. £55 per person or £65 with a glass of Irroy Champagne.

Scoff & Banter, Kensington and Canary Wharf

Scoff & Banter are serving a winter-themed afternoon tea at their restaurants in Canary Wharf and Kensington – handy if you’re going ice-skating at the Natural History Museum. Alongside the traditional scones, there are winter-inspired pastries like spiced carrot cake and mandarin dark chocolate cake to enjoy. Their finger sandwiches deserve a special mention, with fillings ranging from Scottish smoked salmon and lemon butter to rare roast beef with horseradish mayonnaise. Add a glass of prosecco and you’ve got the perfect pre-Christmas treat for family and friends.Continue Reading

With only 13 days left until Christmas, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the festive preparations. To take the stress out of the holiday season, here are our top tips for a delicious, stress-free Christmas.

XmasTips2

Make ahead and freeze – If you’ve got a few hours to spare, get organised and prepare some festive dishes in advance. You can make and freeze a soup to serve as a starter on Christmas Day; make biscuits, chutneys and mince pies to give as gifts; or cook a huge pie or lasagne to enjoy on Boxing Day.

Pick a date, book a table – Got a bunch of mates who can’t agree on when or where to meet for a pre-Christmas catch-up? Take charge and get a table booked ASAP – the best restaurants fill up fast in December.

DIY drinks – If you’re hosting a party but don’t want to be on drinks duty all night, consider a few DIY options. Buzzfeed has a great list of party punches and you could also set up a ‘Pimp Your Prosecco’ bar where guests can spike their glass of fizz with fruit and liqueurs.

Skip the sit-down meal – December is a food-filled month so if you’re having friends over, don’t feel obliged to provide a 3-course sit-down supper. Instead, offer fabulous canapés, dips, skewers, and platters of cheese and charcuterie that guests can pass around and help themselves to.Continue Reading

From wintry walks to fireside suppers, here are seven foodie date ideas to try this winter.

BroadgateIceRink

Strap on your skates – If skating is on your festive bucket list, you can do it in style at Somerset House, the National History Museum, or the Tower of London. Beat the crowds with an afternoon session at the Broadgate Ice Rink, followed by dinner at José Pizarro, The Botanist or Yauatcha City.

Wrap up warm for a wintry walk – Brave the cold for a hand-in-hand stroll across Hampstead Heath and stop off at The Bull & Last for homemade charcuterie, steak and chips, or just a bottle of wine. Primrose Hill and St James’s Park are also good options, but if you want to stay mud-free you could take a walk through Chinatown and finish up in Soho for dinner at Shotgun BBQ or Zelman Meats.

Scarfes

Relax in front of a roaring fire – Warm up this winter with a fireside supper at top London gastropubs like The Gun, The Palmerston, and The Drapers Arms. If you’re celebrating, dine in front of the fire at the ultra-romantic Clos Maggiore or unwind with cocktails at Scarfes Bar.Continue Reading
